Introduction

Upper Vaunces Wind Farm is located on intensively farmed arable land between the four villages of Dickleburgh, Pulham Market, Pulham St Mary and Rushall.

A planning application was submitted on 9 March 2010 following the completion of comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessments confirming the suitability of the site for a small development. Studies included consultation with both statutory bodies, such as Natural England, Environment Agency and RSPB, and the community.

The layout has been designed to:

  • Fit with the Council's Landscape Capacity and Sensitivity Study which indicates the area is appropriate for 2 to 3 turbines
  • Be sympathetic to the surrounding landscape with views broken by the many hedges and trees between residential properties and the turbines
  • Minimise the impact wherever possible by careful positioning of the turbines
  • Optimised for energy generation

The planning application was subsequently refused in December 2010 by the Council. No statutory consultees objected to the proposal and TCI Renewables remains of the opinion that this is a suitable site for this type of development.

TCI Renewables has appealed the decision of the Council following the refusal. The public inquiry is due to reconvene at 10.00am on Tuesday, 24 April 2012 at South Norfolk Council’s offices in Long Stratton.
